The flag of Yemen consists of three horizontal stripes in the colors red, white, and black. In the center of the flag is a green rectangle with a white Islamic inscription that reads "God is Great, Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse on the Jews, Victory to Islam." This inscription is in traditional Islamic calligraphy and is known as the Shahada, which is the declaration of faith in Islam.
The red stripe represents the blood shed by martyrs and the sacrifices made for the country's independence. The white stripe symbolizes peace and unity, while the black stripe represents the dark days of the past and the country's struggles.
The flag of Yemen was adopted on May 22, 1990, following the unification of North Yemen and South Yemen. It replaced the previous flags of the two separate regions with a new design that reflects the unity and national identity of the country.
